Is Fenbendazole For Cancer Real?

While there are plenty of people claiming that a dog deworming medicine called fenbendazole cures cancer in humans, most of the stories have no credible evidence behind them. In fact, there isn’t even enough evidence to suggest that fenbendazole could suppress cancer cells in the laboratory or in living things (like mice). It has been shown to interfere with microtubules, which provide structure and shape to all cells in a cell, but these effects aren’t necessarily related to cancer-fighting.

The drug is widely used as an antiparasitic for various gastrointestinal parasites, such as pinworms, giardia, roundworms, hookworms and Taenia solium. It is also available for pets, as it is used to treat worms in dogs and cats.

A study published in 2021 found that fenbendazole, along with the drugs albendazole and mebendazole, inhibited the growth of pancreatic cancer cells in mice. Other research has shown that fenbendazole can inhibit cancer cell growth by preventing the formation of microtubules. These effects are similar to cytotoxic, or tumor-destroying, anticancer drugs, such as the vinca alkaloids (vinblastine, vinorelbine and vindexatine) and paclitaxel.

In a series of Facebook and TikTok posts, Joe Tippens claims that his cancer went into remission after he began taking fenbendazole on the advice of a veterinarian. But, as an experienced specialist cancer information nurse told Full Fact, Tippens may not be able to reliably attribute his remission to fenbendazole. It’s possible that other factors are at play, including his conventional cancer treatments, which he wasn’t able to cite in his posts. Furthermore, fenbendazole isn’t an established treatment for cancer, meaning that it hasn’t gone through proper clinical trials to see whether it’s safe and effective in people.fenbendazole for cancer
